Does Meditation help quit smoking?

January 28th, 2010

Meditation is generally known to boost confidence, well being and is known to alleviates stress, fear, anxiety and promote better sleep amongst many other health benefits. But the one drawback in using meditation to overcome smoking is that it takes a considerable amount of discipline and time. But it does not necessarily provide the smoker with the motivation to make the effort to quit smoking altogether. And hence the nicotine cravings are bound to stay rooted deep within. NLP Hypnosis on the other hand gives the smoker a chance to learn what his/her subconscious mind had been suppressing over the years about the true devastation the cigarettes are causing to both the mind and the body.

There are so many products out in the market today that promise to help us quit smoking from Self-help books to downloads, video programs, nicotine patches and gums, audio meditation programs, free message boards, music Cds and Self hypnosis Cds and even perhaps cuddly toys that we are just not aware of. But the simple truth is if you entertain nicotine in any form, you are least likely to lose your cigarette from your friends list any time soon.

You see, the very first day that you took up smoking was the day that your body was inhibited by an unwelcome little guest called the nicotine bug. I like to call him the nicotine bug because it is the nicotine bug that is ultimately causing the craving to smoke. Without these cravings, smoking really wouldn’t have become a habit in the first place. Given whichever route we take, ultimately there is only one way to eliminate the nicotine bug and that is to starve it from getting what it wants. And if we can find enough motivation to do this and resist the nicotine cravings however powerful they may seem at the moment it would only be a matter of hours or perhaps a day or two for the new habit to take deep root. But this is really easier said than done. You might say it’s easier to train a baby to walk than for you to give up smoking. And this is precisely where Stop Smoking Hypnosis programs that specifically use NLP are rather useful. Unlike meditation you simply don’t need any willpower to get started. I sat down with the attitude that I will never be able to change my smoking addiction and that will stay enslaved to serve my faithful customer (aka the nicotine bug) for all eternity. What the hypnosis provides is more than the means to free yourself of nicotine. It will give you your life back, your health back and within just a few days you will eventually feel a great deal better. You’ll also feel a whole lot better knowing that you have a great deal more money at the end of the month. On a negative note though it is possible that you might quite likely put on a bit of weight soon after you quit smoking as the body soon replaces the craving for cigarettes with a temporary craving for food.  But don’t worry, because as I said, it’s only temporary and you can lose that weight easily within a few short weeks with a tiny doze of exercise and healthy eating. Besides, it really is a very small price to pay for such a positive improvement to your lifestyle and health.

As far as meditation goes it will give you the same outcome at the end. But the difference is that NLP hypnosis plays a vital role is guiding your subconscious to where it needs to go with greater ease. But perhaps you could prove me wrong and write your own review or success store here someday.

Stop Smoking Hypnosis CD/MP3 program – What worked for me

Hey Katie here

In the last post I shared my story about how I became a smoker (and a very bad one at that) since the age of 19 and how I lost my boyfriend in the process.

The good news it that its been 8 months to this day, since I quit smoking for good. And looking back I feel as though I had lost a few years of my life, living in a chimney. It really feels like night and day now. When I was smoking it was the most satisfying feeling to hold a cigarette and soothe away my loneliness and cares one puff at a time. And I wouldn’t have quit smoking had it not been for my ex-boyfriend who made me think twice. I don’t know what made him say what he did, but now I always look in the mirror and check my eyes regularly. Are they cloudy? Are they wrinkled? Do they look sunken as he said? Not anymore.

So, I finally decided to quit smoking. I crumpled up the 2 packs of cigarettes that I had in my handbag and tossed them in the wastepaper basket but it only took me 4 hours to retrieve them back. So then I tried cutting down by replacing one a day with a warm cinnamon bun, but as soon as I reached for the Coffee a cigarette would light up alongside despite all my will power. I then tried stop smoking aids like nicotine gums, patches and even read a few books that had promised to make me stop smoking for good.

Then I heard about hypnotherapy. What I really heard is about a Study carried out by the University of Iowa covering 6000 smokers, which had proved hypnosis to be atleast three times more effective than nicotine replacement therapy. So I decided to give it a try. My first hypnosis session lasted about 40 minutes and it cost me a fortune at the time. I walked out feeling like a new person. I was definitely breathing much differently than before as the hypnotherapy session was half focused on a breathing exercise. It also made me realize that the cigarettes were like a pair of clutches that made me forget that I had my own two legs to stand on.

But deep inside I knew the habit was still there. As expected the effects of the hypnosis session lasted only 6 hours and I found myself again hesitantly puffing down the dreaded but ill-fully satisfying smoke again. I eventually attended a couple more quit smoking hypnosis sessions, which yielded no further results.

I then started exploring Quit Smoking Hypnosis CDs and mp3s. What I bought wasn’t any different to the sessions I had attended. Same information, same traditional hypnosis approach. The second hypnosis mp3 I bought even had surround sound and came with numerous recordings. Sure, it sounded more fancy but the outcome was still the same. I eventually came across something that did work. And it promised me to make me quit smoking in 39 minutes. Needless to say I was extremely skeptical after having tried out so many presumably similar programs before, but after the first 10 minutes I felt as though I wasn’t sitting in a hypnotherapy session at all but rather was in a conversation with someone I had known for a long time. By the time it reached the end of the mp3, I felt as though a tumor had been removed out of me. This time unlike before I didn’t feel the urge to reach for a cigarette for 5 days. On the fifth day I had to replay the recording once more just to remind myself why I had given up. I guess I hadn’t given much thought much about the step-by-step instructions, which I started to follow almost immediately following the near-relapse. And that’s it. I have never gone back since.

I was however disappointed about the fact that I had to listen to the NLP Hypnosis recording for a second time in order see any lasting effects. But atleast it did the job. Six months of striving and I had finally quit smoking and without much will power.

Side-effects of using hypnosis to stop smoking

I have to admit that this was probably the reason why I never tried hypnosis in the first place. The term Hypnotism sounds like a pretty invasive process but it’s almost as harmless as my 2 year old cat, Hiro. It is only a matter of how receptive you are to the information that is provided. Most people don’t respond well to traditional hypnosis, as it was the case with me as it doesn’t have an emotional appeal or leverage for you to want to quit smoking at your own will. NLP hypnosis on the other hand comes with this emotional leverage that traditional hypnosis lacks for the most part. You could you recall an emotional state without having to refer to any material because the step-by-step instructions are fairly effortless.  But whichever way you decide to go, hypnosis don’t do anything more that what your regular TV commercial does. Either you respond to them or you don’t. But you will definitely not have any brain cells sticking out from the back of your head when the process is done.

Last word

So that’s my review of Stop Smoking hypnosis mp3/cd programs that I had used. Rob Mellor’s Hypnosis mp3 truly is the most remarkable program that I had come across that helped me to kick the habit once and for all. Beyond all the flashy bonuses and the testimonials it all comes down to a simple 40-minute audio that will get to work the first moment you start listening.

Apart from Rob’s personality and great customer service, the one thing that really got my attention was the fact that his program has a 97.2% success rate, which is something that I hadn’t even remotely seen anywhere else before.

Quit Smoking for Good – What made me start and what made me want to give up

November 11th, 2009

Why quit smoking at all? I can recall the first time I smoked. I was 19 and it had only been a week since my Grandma died. I was so much in despair and I just couldn’t stop crying. My first cigarette took me 3 days to get through but afterwards I felt quit calm and I was even able to sleep better. But with time I didn’t realise that despite the short-term benefits it was affecting my relationships and my health considerably. I had completely lost track of how many I was smoking a day. I started with just 2 a day and I had reached 2 packs a day within a short period of a few months. It was great company when there was no one around and a cigarette was a must for me with a coffee or a Baileys. I didn’t even feel the impact it was having on me when I started coughing out soot every morning whilst getting dressed to go to work. But I did eventually, when my boyfriend never turned up for Valentines day but instead sent me an email saying that he couldn’t carry on because every time he looked into my eyes, he could see the sunken and dark eyes of a smoker who wasn’t going too far without a breakdown.  I got the message but I would too helpless to do anything about it. And now, it wasn’t a matter of cutting down, I simply had to stop smoking and I had to find a way.

Are Quit Smoking Hypnosis CD/MP3 programs the Best way to Quit Smoking?

November 11th, 2009

To answer that very bluntly, yes! As with myself I never used to believe this either. We spoke a little about Traditional Hypnosis earlier and why it is in our human nature to no longer be as receptive to them as we used to be.

Ever heard the story of the boy who cried wolf? I bet nearly all of us have heard this story before. Why was it effective? It uses an indirect suggestion rather than an instruction to stop a bad habit from being repeated. It might not work all the time but atleast the message is clear. How about a song that you may have heard a long time ago that is very personal to you (a song that you probably would have heard when you in a highly emotional state)? How would you be feeling right now if you were to hear that song in the background or if you were to just listen to the song on its own? What memories would you recall? How vivid and alive would they be to you? Would you be listening to a song or would you be reliving the experience as though it were happening right now and right where you are? This is precisely what NLP hypnosis is about. It will anchor an emotional feeling or state to the pleasure of being a non-smoker and make it possible for you to recall it time and time again without much effort and without the need for a hypnosis mp3 playback with the aid of a simple step-by-step guide. And after you quit smoking, if you had followed a technique that has left a lasting imprint in your memory then you are highly unlikely to ever go back.

Do quit smoking Hypnosis CDs/MP3 programs work?

November 2nd, 2009

This is probably the most obvious question and there’s no simple yes and no answer to this. They will or will not work depending on who is using the program, how many they smoke a day and of course their personality (funny enough). There are people who quit smoking naturally by going cold turkey. And there are those who will go through weeks and many sessions of hypnotherapy to stop smoking. Personality determines which type of hypnosis the individual is most receptive to.

Without going into to too much detail I’ll briefly mention that there are basically 3 main types of hypnosis in use today.
They are:

  • Traditional Hypnosis
  • Ericson Hypnosis
  • And NLP Hypnosis (Neuro-Linguistic-Programming)

Guess which type of hypnosis a majority of the programs are focused on. You guessed it. Traditional Hypnotherapy! Traditional Hypnosis is great if you a person who is responsive to simple and direct suggestions but nowadays we have grown a bit beyond out boundaries and tend to question things a bit more than usual. Sure, we need instructions for anything, but if I were told to go jump in the pool, I would probably want to know why. This is mainly where Traditional Hypnosis is limited.
